This week has been a trying week for me. My work has been pretty demanding emotionally. Tues we admitted a 81 year old male. He lived at home with his wife. His wife, his full time caregiver, was exhausted. We arranged for him to go to respite. Today we were going to take him, but he was actively dying, so we stayed with the family until he died this afternoon. This family is so sweet and caring. This man had Alzheimer, COPD, and prostrate cancer. I can usually seperate my feelings, but this week this family touched my heart. I caught myself waking up in the middle of the night wondering how this patient was doing.
What I have learned in these past 2 days...
How important it is to have a durable power of attorney.
How love can help a family through a rough time.
How important it is to have funeral arrangements made.
By holding someone's hand it can send a powerful message.
How at the end of the day nothing matters, but my family.
In Him,
Rachel
